Informed consent in cases of extra-hospital transfer of patients in Chile

Consentimiento informado en situaciones de traslado extra-hospitalario de pacientes en Chile

Abstract

Having a written document, to ensure the information given to patients on the benefits and consequences of a transfer, is a requirement that will always favor the relationship between the health team, patient and family. Providing comprehensive information, to consider the parties involved, always generates respect and trust, feelings essential to create a fruitful relationship. When the health team does not consider the patient and his family, he creates a situation of abuse of power by health personnel especially when the patient is in a position of vulnerability and dependency. All of this creates an asymmetrical relationship that deepens when not taken into account the patient's view, these facts only increase mistrust and anxiety. The nurse has the legal and social responsibility to care, and it always involves considering the patient and environment.
