Certainty of the evidence
HighWe are very confident that the true effect is close to the effect estimate.
ModerateWe are moderately confident in the estimate of the effect. The true effect is likely close to the estimate but may differ substantially.
LowOur confidence in the estimate of effect is limited. The true effect may differ substantially from the estimate.
Very lowWe have very low confidence in the estimate of the effect. The true effect is likely to differ substantially from the estimate.
Strength of the recommendation
Strongly for/againstIf the panel is confident in the balance between desirable and undesirable consequences, it makes a strong recommendation in favor (more benefits than harm) or against (more harm than benefits).
Conditional for/againstIf the panel has less confidence in balancing desirable and undesirable consequences, it gives a weak recommendation.
