Question structure in the PICO/PECO format.
Patient or | The subject of interest, to whom the intervention is applied, and in whom the intervention results are sought. |
Intervention or Exposure | It can be a pharmacological therapy, surgical procedure, alternative medicine, or diagnostic test. |
Comparison | The standard course of action for the clinical scenario that generates the question. Sometimes, it may be a dispensable element, depending on the nature of the question. |
Outcome | It is the targeted situation, it can be a prognostic, diagnostic, or therapeutic outcome, the latter being the most common. |
